Now, just over ten years later I've realized I'm still not sure what I want to be, but I have a lot better of an idea what I want to be like. In the years since leaving formal education I've grown, learned and left everything I knew to travel the world.
My inspiration for writing this post is to share with you some awesome resources I've found so that no matter who you are or what you are doing you can choose to keep educating yourself and build a life closer to the one you might be dreaming of. You might not end up with a diploma at the end, although many of the colleges offering free online courses these days will give you class certificates.
One of my favorite places to visit and check out is Coursera. This is a site that gathers classes from schools worldwide that are being offered free right now or very soon. You register online, watch videos and lectures and then take quizzes and tests. I'm currently taking a class about traditional herbal medicines from the southwest United States and Latin America. This site is one that definitely will offer you credits for a small fee.
Another website I check frequently is actually just one specific page, it's found at Marc and Angels website. Marc did a top notch job back in 2010 of sourcing so many awesome websites that offer free education. I love to check back periodically and see what might catch my interest. It's all organized by class topic so it's super easy to navigate. I've taken several writing workshops and classes and even signed up for a writing challenge that will be happening in November.
You can also check out Good Net. They have several awesome options listed as well, coursera is their number one!
Just remember, no matter what you past or present situation, only you are limiting yourself and what you can do in your future. The hardest part is just believing in yourself and taking that first step. I recommend finding an accountabilabuddy. This is someone who you can pair up with and hold each other accountable for goals, dreams, desires and plans you make for yourself. You check in on each other and make sure that you are both sticking to your plan. Having someone else checking on you sometimes is just enough motivation when you are feeling lacking one day.
Good luck with your self education, I believe in you.
