Reflecting back on different parts of this past year, I came to the conclusion that food really is this great unifier. Across South America, you'll find potatoes (up to 3000 varieties), maize, rice and either fried fish or meat along with numberless species of fascinating jungle fruit in almost every country. The subtleties might be different but the dishes themselves similar. Throughout Croatia, northern Italy, Slovenia and Austria we found cuisine with a distinctive Italian soul. In Nepal, we feasted on curries inspired by their southern neighbor India and something reminiscent of a potato latke called a pakauda that reminded me of my grandmothers potato pancakes. Now, we are back to the jungle and returned to the fruit filled markets I love.

The world is only as big as you let it be. Once you take that first step to see what's on the other side of it, you'll realize that we really are all so much more similar than you might have previously thought.
